Philanthropy & Social Service

Stronger Women Through Service to Others

Philanthropic involvement is extremely important to Pi Beta Phi members across the Country. Nationally, Pi Beta Phi places emphasis on literacy as a cornerstone to education and personal development.

"Philanthropy is a big part of the Pi Phi experience. Giving back to the community is so rewarding and provides an amazing opportunity to bond with your sisters."

Alex Vaughan,
VP Philanthropy

Here at USC, we participate in numerous charitable events throughout the year, and hold two major philanthropy events of our own:

Arrowspike is our annual Fall volleyball tournament, and we have raised as much as $18,000 in the past for the Scott Carter Foundation, which funds children’s cancer research. Arrowspike is everyone’s favorite day. Girls are paired up to be team captains for all of the different fraternities and try hard to cheer their teams on to victory. A recent Arrowspike tournament included a performance by Rick Springfield!

Pi Social is our second philanthropy. This night full of laughter, pies, and Pi Phis, ends with our "Pie a Pi Phi," where you can chose your favorite girl to pie in the face! Pi Social brings together the entire USC community, and proceeds are donated to a local Los Angeles Reading to Kids chapter, which promotes literacy.

Pi Phi also enjoys participating in the other philanthropies that take place in the Greek System. We try to get involved with as many Fraternity Philanthropies as possible. This year, we even won first place at Kappa Sigma's Rodeo Days and Alpha Tau Omega's Laser Tag!

In addition to the many philanthropic endeavors that Pi Phis pursue, many Pi Phis also participate in campus and non-campus activities. Some activities include Volleyball, Water Polo, Song Girls, Undergraduate Student Government, Helenes, Panhellenic and many more. Additionally, several Pi Phis hold internships at companies such as Morgan Stanley, Cosmopolitan Magazine, Gucci, Show Me Your Mumu, and more!

Pi Beta Phi members at USC also volunteer throughout the year at the "The Lupus Foundation of America Walk," Ronald McDonald House, hold Speed Reads for elementary school children, and participate in the organization Nike Human Race, as well as many other philanthropies. We also attend different local Elementary Schools and read to the students at the Reading to Kids program.
