Having a swimming pool at home is a luxury and a responsibility at the same time. It looks beautiful and feels refreshing in the summer. As it is exposed to the outdoors, it needs regular care. If you skip proper pool maintenance, it can lead to cloudy water, weird smells, algae, or even damaged equipment.

In this article, we have discussed some smart yet practical tips to help you keep your pool in top condition.

    Clean the filters

It is essential to clean the filters to ensure your pool filter is working efficiently. A quick rinse for cartridge filters works most of the time, but you should give them a deeper clean once in a while. If you’ve got a sand filter, don’t forget to backwash it. DE filters should be cleaned and refilled with fresh DE powder. Cleaning the filters regularly keeps everything balanced.

    Inspect the pool equipment

Pumps, heaters, automatic cleaners, and even the lighting system can wear and tear if ignored. Si, it is crucial to inspect the equipment to prevent sudden breakdowns. If something looks off, whether it’s strange noises from the pump or a heater that isn’t warming up, it’s better to call in a specialist.

Companies like WaterTex Pools have professionals who deal with pool equipment repairs regularly. So, instead of guessing what’s wrong, get it diagnosed and fixed properly by experts. Regular check-ups and timely repairs keep everything running smoothly and make sure your pool isn’t out of order right when you need it most.

    Monitor the water chemical levels

Balanced water keeps bacteria away, prevents algae, and protects your skin and eyes while you swim. That is why it is important to keep an eye on are pH levels, chlorine, alkalinity, and calcium hardness.

pH should usually be around 7.2 to 7.6. Chlorine keeps things sanitized, but adding too much can make the water harsh. Moreover, calcium helps to prevent corrosion and Alkalinity stabilizes the pH. So, check the water, adjust the chemicals.

    Shock the pool

Shocking means giving the water a heavy dose of chlorine to kill off anything that regular chlorine levels don’t fully handle. It clears up cloudy water, removes buildup from swimmers’ body oils, and wipes out stubborn bacteria.

The best time to do this is at night, because the sun can burn off chlorine quickly. Just follow the directions on the shock product, pour it evenly around the pool, and then let the pump run overnight.

    Don’t overlook the pool deck

The deck gets all the splashes, dirt, leaves, sunscreen residue, and even food crumbs. Leaving it dirty not only looks unappealing but also makes the area slippery and unsafe.

Cleaning with a power washer or a stiff brush and mild detergent can keep the deck in top shape. For tile or concrete and check for cracks. By keeping the surrounding area clean, you’re not just protecting the pool itself but also making the whole space more enjoyable and safer to use.
