Dolores Virginia Henry is a name that might not ring a bell for everyone, but her story is definitely worth knowing. Born in a small town of Mississippi, Dolores grew up with big dreams.

Over the years, she made a name for herself in different fields, from education to community work. Whether it was through her career or her volunteer work, Dolores always found ways to make a positive impact.

In this blog, we’re going to take a closer look at her journey, the challenges she faced, and how she became someone many people admire.

    Early Life

    Early Life

Dolores Virginia Henry was born in 1954. She lived in Detroit, Michigan, USA. Growing up in a middle-class family, she was surrounded by music, which became a significant part of her life.

From a young age, Dolores showed a natural talent for singing, often performing at local events and family gatherings. During her teenage years, Dolores kept following her love for music.

She participated in school choirs and local talent shows, gaining confidence and improving her vocal skills. The time after World War II helped shape Dolores’s music.

Changing social rules and the growing love for country music gave her inspiration and chances to follow her passion.

    Meeting Conway Twitty

At a young age, Dolores met Harold Lloyd Jenkins, known by his stage name, Conway Twitty. Their meeting marked the beginning of a deep personal and professional relationship.

Dolores was 20 years Conway’s junior and his secretary for a long time. They faced the challenges of the music industry together, with Dolores giving support and advice.

he understood the music world well and played a big role in Conway’s success.

    Marriage and Musical Partnership

As Conway Twitty’s career grew, Dolores helped in many ways, from planning tours to shaping his public image. Her organization skills and knowledge of the music industry were a big help.

In addition to her behind-the-scenes contributions, Dolores also joined Conway as a musical partner. They recorded several duets together with Dolores as a backup vocalist and songs like “After the Boy Gets the Girl” and “The Pickin’ Shed” quickly became fan favorites.

Their partnership extended beyond the recording studio. Dolores also joined Conway on tours, giving him support. She kept things steady, allowing him to focus on his music.

Dolores Virginia Henry’s Marriage to Conway Twitty

Dolores Virginia Henry had known each other for years before they begun their personal relationship. Conway had been married three times already and had 4 children from his marriages.

Conway and Dolores finally tied the knot in 1987 when Dolores was in her 30s and Conway was in his 50s. Although the two did not have any children together, Dolores remained the last and final love of Conway Twitty’s life.

They stayed happily married for 6 years until Conway’s death in June, 1993.  While performing at the Jim Stafford Theatre in Branson, Missouri, Conway Twitty became sick. After the show, he collapsed on his tour bus and was taken to the hospital.

Doctors performed surgery, but he passed away early the next morning at Cox South Hospital in Springfield, Missouri, due to an abdominal aortic aneurysm, making Dolores his widow.

    Her Individual Career and Life

Besides being Conway Twitty’s wife, Dee was very active in helping her community. She worked as the executive director of the Cope Youth Program in Indianapolis, where she helped and guided young people.

She was also deeply religious and a dedicated member of St. Pius Catholic Church. Her faith was a big part of her life.

    Dolores’ Life After Twitty’s Death

After Twitty’s death, there was a legal dispute over his estate between Dee and Twitty’s four adult children from his previous marriage.

Since Twitty’s will had not been updated to include his fourth marriage, the estate became a point of contention. Tennessee law reserves one-third of any estate for the surviving widow, and after years of probate, his children were awarded the rights to his image, name, and music.

Though her time as Twitty’s wife was short, her presence in his later years was meaningful. Dee herself passed away on January 21, 2016, at the age of 83 in Indianapolis, surrounded by her family.

She is remembered for her kind heart, dedication to her faith, and lifelong commitment to helping others.

Even though she was married to a country music legend, Dee’s legacy is more than just her connection to Twitty—she was a loving mother, a devoted community leader, and a woman of strong faith.

    Conclusion

Dolores Virginia Henry may not be a well-known name, but she played an important role in country music and Conway Twitty’s life.

She wasn’t just a supportive wife—she was also a talented musician, songwriter, and businesswoman who helped Twitty’s career in many ways.
